Russell's viper is a species of venomous snake in the family Viperidae, the family which includes the venomous Old World vipers. The species is found in Asia throughout the Indian subcontinent, much of Southeast Asia, southern China and Taiwan.
Russell's viper is also responsible for causing the most snakebite incidents and deaths among all venomous snakes. These snakes are deep yellow, tan, or brown in color, with three series of dark brown spots that run the length of the body. Each of these spots has a black ring around it, the outer border of which is intensified with a rim of white or yellow. The head has a pair of distinct dark patches, one on each temple, together with a pinkish, salmon, or brownish V or X marking that forms an apex towards the snout. Behind the eye is a dark streak, outlined in white, pink, or buff. The venter is white, whitish, yellowish, or pinkish, often with an irregular scattering of dark spots.
रसेल का वाइपर परिवार वाइपरिडे में विषैले सांप की एक प्रजाति है, परिवार जिसमें विषैले पुराने विश्व वाइपर शामिल हैं। यह प्रजाति एशिया में पूरे भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप, दक्षिण पूर्व एशिया, दक्षिणी चीन और ताइवान में पाई जाती है।
सभी सर्पदंश की घटनाओं और सभी जहरीले सांपों के बीच मौत का कारण बनने के लिए रसेल का वाइपर भी जिम्मेदार है। ये सांप गहरे पीले, तन या भूरे रंग के होते हैं, जिनमें गहरे भूरे धब्बों की तीन श्रृंखलाएँ होती हैं जो शरीर की लंबाई को चलाते हैं। इन स्थानों में से प्रत्येक के चारों ओर एक काले रंग की अंगूठी है, जिसकी बाहरी सीमा सफेद या पीले रंग के रिम के साथ तेज है। सिर में अलग-अलग गहरे पैच की एक जोड़ी होती है, प्रत्येक मंदिर पर एक साथ, एक गुलाबी, सामन, या भूरा वी या एक्स अंकन होता है जो थूथन की ओर एक एपेक्स बनाता है। आंख के पीछे एक सफेद लकीर है, जो सफेद, गुलाबी या बफ में उल्लिखित है। स्पेंटर सफेद, सफेद, पीले या गुलाबी रंग का होता है, जो अक्सर काले धब्बों के अनियमित प्रकीर्णन के साथ होता है।
